Similar to the other bug, the backlight doesn't quite work properly. When it first booted, I could tell it had made it past the initial ACPI section because the hard disk light was flashing, but the screen had gone blank. the laptop then shut itself down (and powered off properly, another hint that ACPI was working). I realised that the screen was not blank, it was just not lit. I tried booting again, and hit the brightness key on the laptop, and I saw the screen :) The brightness button has lost it's "steps", it seems it's just on/off now. Now that I could see the screen, I saw why it was powering off shortly after initial boot. It's shutting down because of: "critical temperature reached 255*C, shutting down." However, I know the laptop is not that hot ;-) Thank again for your help. Where do we go from here?
