It applies on top of the latest git kernel. Using it on my HP Envy 15 resolves the namespace errors. You may also want to check for an updated BIOS for your machine. They have definitely updated the Envy BIOS recently, and I have heard rumours that they also updated the dv6/dv7 as well.
