Szenario: the screen locker kicks in upon lid close. After lid close + open the screen stays black. Switching VTs brings the screen up again. After lid close + open (with*out* logging back in) the screen still comes up again. However, if I scan the RandR state remotely (xrandr -q), it shows that LVDS1 is disconnected when closing the lid, and reconnected when opening - and the screen stays black again. So in short - as long as RandR does not trigger any status updates, the screen stays up.
