Yeah, X could be more proactive.  OTOH, it's also fragile that just detecting
(not setting) the outputs causes the problem.

I'll try to remove the drm_helper_disable_unused_functions() with a machine in
my office later.  FWIW, I tried to adjust xorg.conf (yes we still use it ;) to
disable the "TV" monitor section.  Then the problem disappeared.  So I guess it
will work.  Let's see...
