If it's caused by the non-working fan, the symptom should be temperature
increases quickly and shutdown soon.

the problem also exists in Vista?
can you please clean the fan and the ventilation opening of the laptop?
we have similar bug report before, and it's because the ventilation opening is
jamed...

BTW: please attach the output of "grep . /sys/class/thermal/*/*"
