Summary: cpu fan sometimes misses throttle trip points
           Product: ACPI
           Version: 2.5
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: Linux
              Tree: Mainline
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P1
         Component: Power-Fan
        AssignedTo: acpi_power-...@kernel-bugs.osdl.org
        ReportedBy: tmezza...@gmail.com
        Regression: No

my cpu fan normally behabes as follows:

if temp = 60C : fan turns on, low speed
if temp = 70C : fan turns on, mid speed
if temp = 80C : fan turns on, full speed. (never actually seen it)

if temp = 50 : fan turns off.

90% of the time, this works ok. and the cpu temp oscillates from 60C to 50C
back and forth.

but some times, the trip point is missed, and the cpu fan can:

a) not turn on, and the cpu goes from 50 to 70, where it hits medium speed.
b) not turn off, and cpu fan runns indefinately (cpu temp as cold as it can
get, usually below 40C ).

when b happens, i run burnMMX so that the temperature surpasses the 50C trip
point...and when it does, the fan turns off.

intuition says that trip points are being missed if the acpi reports from 51 to
49 or from 59 to 61. so the fan control never triggers.. but i havent looked at
the code, or wouldnt know where to look at.

i dont know what kind of information might be needed, im posting lspci -vvnn
just in case.

this has been happening for as long as i remember, and 2.6.35-rc6 still has the
issue.
