I'm using the 32-bit kernel and seeing the problem.  Hibernating and resuming
gets the screen back because to the hardware it's equivalent to a reboot.  One
really strange thing I've noticed is that it seems to be location dependent. 
There is one place that I resume that has a very high probability of not
turning the screen on.  I'm wondering if there is some connection to the
wireless card.  On the other hand I think it still didn't work with the kill
switch set to off.  I will try to always resume with the wireless killed and
see what happens.
