Applied patch to both the mainline kernel and fedora's distributed kernel and everything worked. Screen backlight adjustment now works!! First time. Dmesg has no acpi errors! The stability of the machine may have been linked to some display bugs which fedora appear to have fixed independently. Thanks. A great result (for me). Now why do these nasties always show up with panasonic machines??
