Yeah, your patch removes 16 levels. I can actually write 0-15 values into /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness. With "remove_is_backlight_combination_mode", they don't. Lowes is dark enough, but the highest is at half brightness that is possible without the patch.
