 Installed Alongside Windows 7 OS
 Installed as seperate partition on same hard disc drive (Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS
(Lucid Lynx) Daily Build) - Installed now for bug testing purposes, it too
failed.

Issue: 
Using the shutdown commands in terminal and dialog interfaces only cause my
laptop to restart.

Expected result:
When using terminal commands or the GUI to SHUTDOWN, I expect my laptop to
completely power-off until I turn it back on.
