The module was installed with the kernel like all the other modules and should
be installed correctly. Running depmod doesn't help.

Running:
$ modprobe -D asus-laptop
gives:
insmod /lib/modules/3.6.8/kernel/drivers/platform/x86/asus-laptop.ko
which shows that the module has no dependencies.

As you can see, I am now running kernel 3.6.8.

I have tried with various acpi_osi and acpi_backlight kernel arguments, but
this doesn't help.
