Bug ID: 60712 Summary: Machine sometimes hangs at poweroff Product: ACPI Version: 2.5 Kernel Version: 3.11.0-rc4 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Tree: Mainline Status: NEW Severity: high Priority: P1 Component: Power-Off Assignee: acpi_power-...@kernel-bugs.osdl.org Reporter: kre...@email.com Regression: No Created attachment 107134 --> https://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=107134&action=edit Kernel config I'm sorry if I chose the wrong product and component, but these seemed only reasonable ones to select. Most of the time when I try to poweroff my laptop, it just hangs. Doesn't matter if you run poweroff, shutdown -h now or select poweroff from Xfce4 menu, it will just hang saying "Power down." and remain like that for an eternity (well, it looks like so) unless I hold down power button for like 5 secs. This happens ever since I bought this laptop last year ago, since kernel 3.5 or 3.6, I think. It still happens on latest 3.11.0-rc4 kernel. I want to note that I use one proprietary driver, Broadcom wireless one but I've verified and confirmed that it is not causing the issue by blacklisting it and using the kernel driver (which doesn't work well for my hardware). I've also noticed some people have this issue after resumming from suspend, but this machine can't even suspend (it suspends all devices but remains powered on, so only option is to shut it down using power button). There are also some strange ACPI messages in dmesg output which I have attached (have been there ever since). I am also attaching kernel configuration. As for the hardware, it is a HP Pavilion g6-1225em laptop which specifications you can see at [1] I sure hope this will be fixed once, I've already replaced one hard drive because of all the hard shutdowns and/or lockups because of power management.
