kernel starts with:

linux    /boot/vmlinuz-3.8.0-26-generic
root=UUID=701cbb81-afba-41cb-9011-a539d104c235 ro   quiet splash vt.handoff=7

Also, with "acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor" I have the same behaviour
