To bring some clarity: the kernel is 3.12 so use_native_blacklight shouldn't
work at all.

The laptop has hybrid video, with both Intel (intel_backlight) and AMD
(acpi_video0) cards. As far as I can tell, trying to change the brightness
settings results in changing them for the AMD card, which is not connected to
any screens. There is a fix for the brightness issue by specifying the
backlight driver in xorg.conf as intel_backlight.

I still have no idea how or why the hang happens. I'll see if I can fish
anything out of Mageia for that matter.
