kernel panic ocurring (at least what's still left on screen)

Kernel crashes right at the start in ACPI init code.
Problem started occuring in the 4.14 series, first official release had the
problem, 4.14.4 has it, 4.13.12 still worked, as well as most older kernels I
had lying around.
Setting acpi=ht crashes too.

Unfortunately I don't have a matching serial port adapter for the connector on
the mainboard, so I could only attach a photo of the panic for now. I'll try to
get a matching one if this would be of any help.

Please let me know which further information I should provide.
