            Bug ID: 217583
Summary: Alienware M18 R1 AMD won't boot on battery if below
                    70%
           Product: ACPI
           Version: 2.5
          Hardware: All
                OS: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P3
         Component: Power-Battery
          Assignee: acpi_power-batt...@kernel-bugs.osdl.org
          Reporter: kwilliam...@gmail.com
        Regression: No

I have an Alienware M18 R1 AMD with a 7945HX cpu that does not complete the
boot process when on battery power AND the battery is below about 70%. If the
battery is almost full, it boots fine. This is repeatable using the live usb
of every distro I have tried (Fedora, Ubuntu, Arch). I have updated the
machine to the latest BIOS 1.2.2.

Using a separate disk, I can install and boot into windows 11 without issue.

If I run with acpi=off kernel parameter it will boot but many devices do not
work.

I have tried many different kernel parameters to try and fix the issue without
success. As far as the hardware I have tried:

- different hard drives
- disabling hybrid graphics in BIOS
- replacing the battery
- disabling as many devices as I can in the BIOS (wifi, NIC, etc)

When I try to boot with battery < 70%, it gets part way through the booting
process and then turns off or reboots. The logs do not get flushed to disk so
I can't for sure tell what the last log entry is. I have used my phone to try
and record the output to the screen before it shuts down but the last entries I
can see don't look suspicious.

One other issue that may be related is that after boot, a process is hammering
the kernel with system calls, pegging one core to 100%. I have to run:

echo 'on' > '/sys/bus/usb/devices/usb1/power/control'

To stop it.

I suspect the BIOS has some issues but I do not know how to debug it. Any tips
on what to try would be appreciated. Below are interesting snippets from my
dmesg log of a successful boot while on AC power.
