Bug ID: 220604
Summary: Power Profiles not supported after BIOS/UEFI firmware
update to AGESA V2 1.2.0.E and later
Product: ACPI
Version: 2.5
Kernel Version: 6.12.48
Hardware: AMD
OS: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: BIOS
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Regression: No
I updated the firmware of my motherboard and now Power Profiles are
unavailable.
Motherboard is a [Gigabyte A520I
AC](https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/A520I-AC-rev-1x/support#support-dl-bios),
last working BIOS is F21d, the issue is present since version F21g and later.
The error message in KDE's tray icon menu is
`Power profiles are not supported on your device`
I changed nothing in the configuration, I’m on NixOS, the relative line is
`services.power-profiles-daemon.enable = true;`
and it always worked before.
I tried to load default values and also tinkering with settings in UEFI, but
nothing worked.
On boot I now get an error message that is not displayed with version F21d:
```
```
my cpu is a Ryzen 4600G.
Apparently there is no option in BIOS that could have triggered this.
The changelog for the new firmware is:
`Update AMD AGESA V2 1.2.0.E for fix AMD CPU microcode signature verification
vulnerability (CVE-2024-36347)`
Previously it was
`AGESA 1.2.0.Cc`
when everything used to work.
I reached out to Gigabyte and after some back and forth this was their final
reply
```
Please do check linux developer on this AMD CPU freq error as AMD has updated
their CPU TPM 2.0 support.
Please do check wesbite for the work around.
https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxquestions/comments/1llr9sk/amd_pstate_cpufreq_errors_in_dmesg_linux_61234_1/
At the moment, there is no work around, maybe next AMD Agesa code update to
check.
```
They sent me those 2 links and the first one is from 2021.
They also previously told me to stay on the working firmware as the later ones
are beta (it's not true, none of the firmwares is marked as beta).
