Bug ID: 221746
Summary: Acer Nitro ANV15-41: Mic-mute LED not
controllable/synced via acer_wmi
Product: ACPI
Version: 2.5
Hardware: AMD
OS: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: low
Priority: P3
Component: Other
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Regression: No
On the Acer Nitro ANV15-41 (AMD Ryzen 5 6600H + NVIDIA RTX 3050 hybrid), the
microphone mute function works correctly via software (e.g. wpctl set-mute),
and the Fn+F4 hotkey correctly sends a scancode recognized by the kernel input
layer (reports as XF86Launch6 under Wayland/libinput, key code 193). However,
the physical mic-mute LED on the keyboard does not light up or reflect the mute
state in any way.
Steps to reproduce:
Boot into Arch Linux (kernel 7.1.3-arch1-2), Hyprland/Wayland session.
Mute the microphone via software: wpctl set-mute @DEFAULT_AUDIO_SOURCE@ toggle
(or press Fn+F4).
Observe: audio is correctly muted (confirmed via wpctl status / application
behavior).
Observe: mic-mute LED indicator on the keyboard does not illuminate.
Expected behavior:
Mic-mute LED should light up when the microphone is muted, matching Windows
behavior on the same hardware.
Actual behavior:
LED never activates regardless of mute state.
Additional investigation performed:
ls /sys/class/leds/ shows no mic-mute-related entry — only input3::capslock,
input3::numlock, input3::scrolllock, input4::capslock, input4::numlock,
input4::compose, input4::scrolllock, input4::kana, and Ethernet activity LEDs
(enp3s0-*::lan). No acer:: or platform::mic* LED class device is exposed.
acer_wmi module is loaded (confirms general WMI support works on this model for
other functions, e.g. battery reporting per frederik-h/acer-wmi-battery#92).
This appears consistent with similar unresolved reports on other Acer Nitro
models (AN515-47, AN515-57, AN515-58) where mute audio works but the LED does
not sync, suggesting Acer's mic-mute LED control uses an EC/ACPI method not yet
implemented in acer_wmi.

(79772EC5-04B1-4BFD-843C-61E7F77B6CC9 is a Microsoft-defined standard WMI GUID
sometimes associated with button/LED control on various laptop vendors — may be
worth investigating first if a maintainer wants to probe further.)
