Update: HP Support warranty case opened (case #5163282638, warranty active, 96
days remaining as of 2026-08-10). HP's live agent declined to acknowledge a
firmware defect and declined escalation, repeatedly requesting a Windows
reinstall as a "diagnostic"; a supervisor callback is pending. Notably, HP's
position is that the firmware settings are "tailored to function optimally with
Windows" - which confirms the OS-identity gating described here. I will post
HP's written position (fix commitment or denial) when received. The DMI-scoped
OSI quirk in drivers/acpi/osi.c remains the requested fix.
