For quite some time now, I was a happy user of the asus_acpi kernel
module. Lately, however, I've updated to newer Linus kernels and
haven't been able to get the backlight controls to work (since the move
from /proc to /sys).

I suspect this is just something silly I'm doing. The information below
came from the driver version shipped in the 2.6.21.5 kernel, but I had
previously tried to get things working with earlier cvs versions of the
driver with little luck.

The permissions on ls_level and ls_switch (also ledd) are set to 000,
which would seem to indicate a change from the previous behavior of
allowing writes to these files to select the desired behavior. I tried
upping the permissions, but I got the same permission denied error and
assume this is related to something happening inside the kernel module
itself. Under class/backlight, I can write to brightness and read it
back under either brightness or actual_brightness, but I wouldn't expect
to see anything until I can turn off the automatic settings from the
light-sensor. The mail led works as well.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks,

- -Richard Houser
