A colleague just told me about a software that analyzes ASP code and
reports the performance "cost" line by line, provides warnings about
connections left open and objects not destroyed, and other analysis.  As
soon as he gets back to me, I'll let you know the name of the product.

Microsoft might have some resource kit tools and downloads, too.

Other than that, my only advice is to use
system/error/application/security logs, auditing, and performance
monitor, to track down problems when a crash occurs.  It may have
nothing to do with IIS.
