Yeah, that's the beauty of open source solutions, I've found. You aren't tied to a particular vendor or a particular operating system, at all. I recently migrated my entire site to PHP: I now host it on a Linux server, do my development and testing on a Windows 2003 Server, and have managed to get it working (no kidding!) on my Zaurus PDA. Try that with ASP. :) Plus, a very, very huge incentive for me to move to PHP was the sheer number of free (as in open source) scripts available. The philosophy of making software available free runs through the whole community, so although there are canned ASP scripts available, most of them cost $$$. Go check out my calendar: http://calendar.manastungare.org/ : if it weren't for the readymade script, I'd never write it myself in ASP -- it's probably not worth the effort for a homepage.
