SAN JOSE, Calif. - April 18, 2005 - Adobe Systems Incorporated

approximately $3.4 billion.

My personal take on this, having been in the industry this long...

Dreamweaver and Flash will turn to crap (for lack of a more
appropriate term) for at least 5 years. Every new release or update
during this period will be haunted by screwed up attempts to
integrate the 'Adobe' way of doing things into these applications
until they eventually decide to completely redesign them both for
want of being able to engineer them into their products correctly.
The other 'non-major' apps (like FreeHand & Fireworks) will simply
be discarded completely.

I'd like to say that it's not REALLY that bleak and that Adobe would
have learned SOMETHING after buying out the many businesses they
have before, but I just don't see it. EVERY SINGLE TIME they buy a
business/product it goes downhill until they rewrite it from
scratch. It'll be interesting to watch how Flash develops (or, more
likely, DIES) in the next year now that Adobe will be controlling
it's fate.

I recommend anyone currently focusing any of their energies into
Flash development run screaming to learn SVG instead. Flash will
lose significant market share and will no longer be supported the
way it is now. Kiss it goodbye, the reaper has come.
