Hi all,

Slightly off topic I'm afraid, but I wonder if anyone can answer this...

We run 4D Server 2003 on Mac OS X 1.3 with Active4D. I need to allow FTP access to the web folder for clients, and so I'm thinking of buying Rumpus FTP Server. Is there any reason (stability, conflicts, security or anything?) why I should not do this?

With respect to security, if your clients are remote, you might want to consider only allowing access to the ftp server via ssh, or restrict the IP addresses which can connect.

Also, is Rumpus the best FTP server for Mac OS X?

I used Rumpus under OS 9 and was very happy with it. I looked at it when I moved one of my customers to OS X and went with CrushFTP. CrushFTP is not as expensive and has more features than the old Rumpus did. The author offers good support too, which is good because at the time I bought it the documentation was only available in HTML files and wasn't very searchable (this may have improved though).
