The only plugins above which run on the server are Active4D, BASh, and the 4D Backup plugins. BASh is not the problem. The 4D Backup plugins don't run until 5:45 PM each day, so they're not the culprit. It's now between Active4D and 4D Server itself. Before yesterday we had all this on just the Server. We got a temporary Web Client license so that we could isolate the culprit a little more. It's not Jaguar/Panther, as we've reproduced the problem on each environment. It's not file permissions. We've fixed permissions on each machine. It's not triggers or stored procedures. We've put a logging mechanism in place to log any potential problem, there. It's not a preference file. If it were, the problem would be persistent, not intermittent. We're just about to punt 4D development for the long term.
It hasn't crashed yet using the web client, but it's only a matter of time. (The problem didn't go away, but it should reoccur on one of the two machines.) The one problem we noticed with the web client was that if you open up a Foundation process (to a certain table), the process is named after the last graphic that was loaded by our Active4D home page: "/Graphics/BuiltWithOSX.GIF". (I double-checked this by calling a simple wrapper method which retrieves the name of a process given the process number.) The corresponding process on the server is named "•Project" as it should be. (?????) I think at the time, we had both the 4D Server's web server and the web client's web server running at the same time. This shouldn't have been a problem though, should it?
Question #2: Has anyone else been experiencing random hangs or crashes?
4D Clients are unaffected until the server goes down.
Bart Alcorn <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> is having very similar problems. (He also has Active4D) Here was his comment to me:
One episode yesterday, crashed, then crashed twice again immediately upon restarting, and then smooth sailing so far. Very typical.
While there is no specific pattern, we should run ok today and then sometime tomorrow have another crash or three within a 5 minute span and then run again for a day or two.
This is exactly what's happening to us.
