We use the default of designer login, but use a 4D Path file for the client to connect. I changed our test server to start using my user name. Starting up the client connecting to the test server seemed to work for me - until I tried to access data. I didn't use a path file and had to go into user mode to start the web server.
Any page that accesses the database will not return any results. Might have to look at a low level error message that says access denied or something.
It took some real digging and a bit of serendipity, but I found the reason and the solution.
If you look in Preferences->Web (Client)->Publishing, there is a Web Passwords section. If the password system is active (because Designer has a password), Client's web server will give database access ONLY to the user selected in the Generic Web User menu.
So if you are using Client as a web server, you need to create a user that is used for web serving, and set the Generic Web User to that user.
Hope this helps resolve the problem for everyone.
