We have tried to used symbolic links and aliases to link each web site
directory to the common files in order to speed up maintenance of the sites
when something has to to the core files.
So far no luck. I am assuming that this not supported by A4D as I have not found anything on this subject in the documentation apart for library and
ini files.

Symbolic links/aliases on Mac OS X or shortcuts on Windows definitely do work. But if you are referring to a file outside the web root, you have to add the target directory to the 'safe script dirs' path list in Active4D.ini.
