Thanks (in particular) to this list, and despite my lack of experience in this area we are now running live with Apache fronted 4D Client using "X-Forwarded-For", to get the remote client IP for the log (hacked version of Aparajitas Shell passes the remote IP to Active 4D if 4D is running on non-standard port so didn't have to change any of the page scripts).

See 'web shop' (dynamic) section of . . . . .

The performance improvement seems to be almost 100% overall which seems incredible - possibly due to Apache's more efficient serving of images. (I also thought it might be due to the fact that the web serving function and database application function weren't crammed into the same O/S thread). The main benefit is that the 'browser experience' is much better due to no dropped assets and professionally looking rendered pages.

I would not in a million years have achieved this without the help of this list or Active4D's versatility which let me deploy my 4D knowledge when I was lacking in web technologies - I would have given up a long time ago, but help was forthcoming when I hit problems, and now the customer's complaints are being addressed.

It's a fairly plain looking site at the moment but it's job is to sell bikes and it's doing it. My own thoughts are that now Active4D-4D combination is going to prove itself and they will start to get creative with it.

Many thanks again to all the people on the list who helped me, in particular Steve Alex, Brad Perkins, Michael Check, Mehboob, Raimon Fernandez (+ of course Aparajita for a killer product).

If anyone else wants to go down the route of fronting 4D with Apache and needs some help please ask on the list or PM me and I'll be very pleased to pass on my own experiences.

Best Regards

Peter Jakobsson
