They are declared in .a4d page

I have really narrowed it down to the simplest form and the error still occurs.

<%
        ARRAY TEXT(atTest;0)
        $ret:=Parse("1-2";"-";->atTest)
%>

Where 'Parse' is a 4D method

If I instead change to the following, where <>atA4D_Buffer is declared in the database, all works fine

<%
        ARRAY TEXT(<>atA4D_Buffer;0)
        $ret:=Parse("1-2";"-";-><>atA4D_Buffer)
%>

No, neither 4D nor Active4D know or care.

Are you declaring the process variable in 4D or in Active4D?
