Greetings,
Many are wondering what my progress is with Active4D for v11. Just so
you understand, v11 is forcing me to do almost a complete rewrite.
Very little of my original code will survive.
Internally, Active4D will use Unicode exclusively. This means every
line of code that deals with strings has to be changed. It took a few
days to get the Unicode libraries working.
I can no longer rely on the Altura Mac2Win library (4D is no longer
supporting it, which allowed me to write code that would work on both
Mac and Windows. This means I have to use other platform-neutral
libraries (such as the C/C++ standard libraries), or write different
code for Mac and Windows. I was using Mac2Win for my file handling
code, so all of that has to be rewritten.
Active4D implements a lot of the 4D commands itself, and a lot of that
code will have to be rewritten.
The bottom line is, while I am making steady progress, I have a long
way to go. So please continue to be patient. I will keep you updated
each week with my progress.
