Peter, There are a number of jQuery grid plug-ins available. A quick google search of 'jquery grid' listed at least 6 different tools for the job using jQuery.

Furthermore there seem no ready-to-use, customizable widgets to be available, like it is with extjs or jquery-UI. In case I'm wrong, I'd appreciate if you could point me to a source. So I might use extjs, if I can sort out their licensing, or stick with plain html tables spiced up with a little bit jquery magic for now.
