Sorry to jump in late on this, but I am just now catching up on my newsgroup messages. I had this same problem when I upgraded from 8.5 to 8.6. Veritas support had me run some job reports and emailed me a fix for our particular build number and everything has been rock solid since then. I think the latest build of 8.6 must include this because I just finished moving our backup/file server and loaded with the latest build from their support site, and system state is backing up fine so far(only 2 weeks since the move).
