In the absence of the DS client, they'll need WINS or LMHOSTS & a PDC emulator. I'd say either make the remote site its own (child?) domain so that Win2k DC/GC can be a PDC emulator for the domain, or install the DSClient so the downlevel clients can authenticate off the local server.
