Yes, I agree with other posters, a full audit and discovery will reveal enough about your current setup to eliminate the need for a redeployment. The Fastlane Reporter tool from Quest (www.quest.com) is excellent at reporting on your current environment. The reports are fully customisable and should be able to provide you with information on every aspect of your current AD setup. Prior to rolling out a new Active Directory it would be highly advisable (essential really, to ensure minimal user disruption and a smooth deployment) to use a tool like this to fully document the current environment anyway, so just using it to carry out the discovery phase and then documenting would then remove all the subsequent planning and deployment steps.

You could also use a tool like Ecora

Marc I can't help with the documentation &c., because ours is so
specific to our particular setup, but I'm curious...
You want to replace one W2K/AD domain with another?
How bad is the old one? Surely, even if there is no documentation, the
setup can't be that hard to work out and document? You might save some
downtime and user confusion. It might not save on the overall
hour-expenditure, but there are many other factors to consider when you
decide to dump a domain.
I don't mean to question your decision, but unfortunately the question
slipped right out..!
One small helpful hint when it comes to documentation : M$ Visio has a
number of built in symbol libraries which deal with Active Directory and
soforth. You can create professional looking diagrams quite quickly [I
won't get into whether or not nice-looking diagrams are actually better
than scruffy ones, but you did mention "management".]
All the best,
Andy
