The method I like is to first create the Computer objects directly in the OU of
choice. The computer can then be joined to the domain at a later date.

The Computer objects can be (pre-)created in this way either via script or with ADUC.

The advantage of this approach is that (through delegation) you can separate the group
that has permissions to create the Computer objects from the group that has
permissions to join the computer to the domain. In many organizations these are not
the same people.

The previous thread (that you mention) also shows the permissions that are required to
do it this way.

Good Morning,

We have recently set up a site within a larger Active Directory. We are in
the process of moving users and computers to their new ou's.

I remember a thread awhile back that explained that when you added a
computer to AD you could specify which OU it went into, I believe this was
done through an unattended install script, are there other ways, or do the
computers always get placed in the default OU?

Thank you in advance for your help.
