Hey Steve,

Nope, that's the way its supposed to be. GCs and domains are forest-wide resources, so appear under the forest root and nowhere else.

Subject: [ActiveDir] _msdcs records and a weird problem with DNS

Hi all, just wondering if this is the cause of a weird problem I am having....

My empty root domain (domain.root) DNS records have the following under _msdcs:

_msdcs

+dc

+domains

+gc

+pdc

Now, my production domain (corp.domain.com) DNS records have the following under _msdcs:

_msdcs

+dc

+pdc

There are no GC or domain records for this domain.

Is this by design? The GC SRV records for corp.domain.com are listed up in the root domain's DNS servers.. I would have thought they would be in the domain that they belong to..

Thanks,

SB
