Aaaaahhh... but there's the rub. Upgraded to OS X (10.everything now up to 10.2) and threw away Apple shares on the W2K server. Yipeeee!!!
BUT. After numerous instances of file corruption (OS X 10.1, 10.1.5, 10.2, 10.2.1 now testing 10.2.2) due to unsupported charcters and simple wierdness, I gave up and went back to Apple shares. Find "SMB file corruption problems with Jaguar" on the page http://www.macwindows.com/jaguar.html#101602 for some more info. There's a lot of other good stuff related to this topic on that site.
