Within the WMI there is, by default it is locked down with only local user access, you have to turn on several sections and then allow access by NT account to sections of WMI.  This can be at the \root of WMI but has to be specifically done.

Subject: [ActiveDir] WMI Security on Windows 9x

I know this is unrelated to Active Directory but was hoping that someone has run against this while scripting with the WMI service;

We are trying to get the WMI service on all of our Windows 9x systems and allow a specific account to remotely access all the systems to recover information about the systems.

We have been able to successfully deploy it but we are having difficulty adjusting the ACL via script for remote access to the WMI service.

We have been able to build a script that will return what is currently loaded in the system for rights but we are having difficulty building a script that will push onto the system the new rights we want on all the systems.

We hope to be able to run it from the local system and maybe even from our logon script and adjust this security setting.
