The AD in WS2K3 is fundamentally as it was in W2K, with some notable improvements in the KCC (reduced computation needed for topology calculation), replication (value replication instead of attribute replication for certain attributes), and multi-forest support (cross forest trust). A nice security improvement is that anonymous users by default have no access and therefore can't mount DOS attacks on AD. Supposedly the overall performance of AD has been improved, but I haven't assessed that. There are improvements in some of the AD-related admin tools as well. Summary: notable but not revolutionary improvements.
