If you are on a W2K network, I hope you have a DNS service. So a (or many) W2k server is the DNS server for your Network. Your can declare as DNS server your DNS/W2K server on your Sun Solaris server.
LDAP is a protocol used to query and update a directory like OpenLDAP, NDS, Oracle Directory services, ... and Active Directory. A Directory is generally used to store enterprises informations like users, phone numbers, softwares, softwares licences, access rights, ... In this case, the directory is called security directory. AD is a security directory which scheme as been extended to store many systems informations (printers, shared, domain architecture, ...) and if wished the Name Service Directory. So you can query AD to solve IP Names ! In your case, I think that the easier is to declare your DNS/W2K box as DNS server for the network on your Sun machine. Later, if authentication is a problem for you, plan to change the logon process on you Sun to authenticate with AD. You can use LDAP for authentication, but it won't really help with general name resolution in a Windows envrionment,. -------------------------------------------------------------- Roger D.
