I've used Migrator twice for migrations, and it has been rock solid and very, very helpful both times. Its got a lot of nice features, especially if you're doing multiple-to-one or multiple-to-multiple domain migrations. Its also got nice Exchange integration features. Overall I'm very impressed with it.

 

The first migration also included Active Roles, but I wasn't there long enough to be involved in its use. Personally, I think its of marginal use in most organizations, but it could be helpful for some. One important piece to note is that it does require schema extensions, which can be off-putting for some people.

Does anyone have any feedback- positive and negative -  on using Active Roles and Migrator from Quest software.  We are looking at these products for migrating from a complex NT4 model and further ongoing security admin of the AD.

At a cost of around $20 per user and 8000 users this is a large cost - we are really interested if people have had good or bad experiences with these tools during a migration and day-to-day operations.

Fyi we are migrating NT4-Win2k3 (no upgrade -building separate Win2k3 single forest single domain) and not worrying about exchange (stay on 5.5 until next year).
