LOL... I fail to see why it would be impossible. Maybe a bit impractical, but not impossible.

That would be one of those things I need on a thumb drive - along with my ssh keys, peagent and putty, that is...

Ooh let me know if you do.  I keep meaning to write a script that I can carry on a thumb drive that I can hook into machines I step onto them. An MS guy once told me it was impossible, usually that is enough to get me to go do it but I have been too busy the last couple of years.

I keep meaning to get around to scripting that for myself, but its been a while since I've had to do a lot of server builds.

As it should be. All of the advanced view everything features should be enabled on servers and any workstations that get admin tools installed on them. I don't understand the MS thought to hide things from admin level users in the gui's and making them learn enough to turn the stuff on. It is similar in basic concept to the old idea that they should enable all functionality by default and let the admin figure out what they could turn off. Thankfully they have reversed that thinking and now make the admin learn enough to turn it on. Maybe someone is thinking that they should display everything by default as well and make the admin figure out how to filter things out from being seen so they KNOW what is being filtered out.

One of my largest pet peeves on MS products is having to go in and change all of the explorer settings on a server so I can actually see file extensions and all the files.

Of course not everyone hates that, it is good for the people writing virii and trojans.

Dave,

Thanks for the catch - I completely forgot the Advanced Features.....  It's become ubiquitous on my systems....

In ADU&C, go to the View menu and make sure "Advanced Features" is checked.  Then find the object and look at its Properties dialog - there's a tab called "Object" - the object's full name is listed there in the form domain/container/container.../object (example: ad.company.com/users/fred).  The containers are the full path of OUs where the object is located.

The Object tab is only visible if Advanced Features is selected.
