I have a native mode Win2k domain with about 4000 users, 600 of them who
have roaming profiles and use terminal services for a specific
application. Recently, users have complained that when they try to open
attached Office documents in Outlook, they get errors such as the MS
installer. They also get the installer screen when opening some Office
apps.

I've traced the error back to users who have logged onto the terminal
server, and I think I can pinpoint when the problem started. We also use
this particular terminal server as a backup server, and I installed
Outlook on it to use the Exchange agent for Veritas (it requires a MAPI
client on the backup server). I installed the same version of Outlook
used when the roaming profiles were configured.

Now that I'm reasonably sure this server and the new Outlook
configuration on it is corrupting profiles, what can I do to prevent it
aside from uninstalling Outlook from the terminal services server? Is
there a good way to prevent roaming profiles from being updated when
logging on to the terminal server?

Thanks.
