For SBS 2000, the only "officially supported" upgrade path was through BackOffice 2000, although that can be VERY difficult to establish through Microsoft itself.
The first time I did this, I went through the process of getting a client from SBS 2000 to "standard" Exchange, Windows Server, and SQL. Using the individually licensed copies caused many many hours on the telephone with PSS (SQL was seamless - Exchange and Windows Server were not).
