    I came across that same solution a couple of days ago!  (see

stumped for quite a while.  I think a real roadblock in my analysis of the problem is 
that when the vsp.sys file was originally updated, it did not require a reboot, but 
also consequently didn't take effect until the server was rebooted which was a couple 
of weeks later for a security patch.  So the cause/effect was not readily apparent.  
That was on a Compaq 1750 that is our Veritas backup server.  Unfortunately, I have a 
Compaq 3000 that has the same problem that occurred at about the same time and it 
doesn't run the Veritas software; other Compaq 3000's were not affected.  So I am 
still searching for that soluton.

        I finally found the resolution to this problem. It came down to obtaining an 
updated version of the Veritas driver, VSP.SYS.
