The ren tools do not support renaming domains with Exchange integrated into the schema. That's a quote that pops into my "misty, still frozen and haven't had my coffee yet" brains. So that would imply that even if your domain doesn't have any exchange boxes in it, your forest has, so your stuck ... The other requirement is that the entire forest should be in Windows 2003 Functional level. So you're stuck again indeed!
Stuck ... Double stuck ... However, I agree with dj that you should be glad that you have these good technical excuses not to go on with the rename. I've gone through the complete scenario in a relatively simple test environment and it wasn't the nicest thing I've ever done ;-) ... Cheers! John -----Original Message----- From: Stuart, Cory G. [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: woensdag 12 november 2003 0:59 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [ActiveDir] Renaming a Domain Hi all, I have a question. According to MS: * Domain rename operation is not supported in an Active Directory forest that has Exchange 2000 deployed in it. The domain rename tool will detect this fact and refuse to proceed. I am pondering a domain rename for a child domain in a forest. Within my domain, I do not have Exchange 2000 deployed. Because Exchange 2000 does exist within the forest, am I stuck? Also, my DCs will be running Server 2003, but the root level DCs (IE the Domain Naming Master) will only be running 2000. Am I again, stuck? Thanks! Cory -------------- Cory G.
