Are you working with a 2003 server?

I think that setting is by default and you have to explicitly assign the permissions.  Everytime you go to properties it’ll appear checked – but grayed out a little…

Subject: [ActiveDir] off topic but really wierd

Ok so folders under a users profile, including my documents, favorites, etc, all show up as "Read Only" when brining up the properties page in explorer. Unchecking this box and applying appears to work but when you go back the read only attribute is back. Obviously this is wrong as I can write files to these folders

ATTRIB from DOS does not show any attributes set.

I made sure that these folders were not inheriting permissions.

We're having a problem with a java program that reads that attribute and decides that in fact, it cannot write to that directory.

This is easy to reproduce, check it out yourself. Any advice?

Thanks
