if this is a DC of your root domain (or only domain in a forest), you should be aware of the "island" issue that you may cause when changing the IP address of a Win2k DC - most importantly, you should ensure that a root DC (if it's also a DNS server) doesn't use itself as a DNS server in it's IP configuration => it would then only update it's host record in it's own DNS zone. This will then fail to replicate to the other DCs... voila - there's your DC "island". It can be avoided by pointing the DC to use another DC as DNS server in it's IP configuration (ideally outside of the same site).
This problem has been fixed in 2003, but if you're running 2000, you still need to know about this. /Guido -----Original Message----- From: Joe [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Donnerstag, 18. It is a DNS Server In those cases you will need to repoint any machines hard coded to the old IP. Other than that, once the ip changes, make sure it gets updated in DNS/WINS ok and verify that the IP address is assigned to the proper site. joe -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of George Arezina Sent: Tuesday, December 16, 2003 3:25 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [ActiveDir] DC IP Address Hi guys, Can anyone tell me if they had a problem after changing the ip address on a DC? What we are facing is a major network reconstruction, and the network address scheme may change. Therefore, I may need to change an ip address of a DC already in function.
