I've heard of it.  IMHO, this is one component in a total strategy/architecture.  There's a company that makes some of the software components and calls it Securebots or something like that and they intend it to run on switches, hubs, routers, etc. so that all nodes are aware of each other from a security perspective; a fabric if you will.  The idea of the threat is that the next worm can run across the net in less than 15,000 ms which is much faster than many IDS systems can currently identify a threat and then take action to stop the threat.  Interesting work that may signal the next wave of security research payoff.   Al From: Rich Milburn [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, December 22, 2003 8:57 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [ActiveDir] OT: antivirus hardware? (not an ad) A few days ago the conversation drifted to ad vulnerability, and I know AV is on most of our minds to some degree most of the time, so I thought some here might find this interesting.  It was in the MIT weekly tech review newsletter.  An excerpt is: "By using reconfigurable hardware rather than software the researchers were able to construct a system fast enough to filter data going through high-speed network backbones and flexible enough to add virus and worm signatures quickly as they are discovered. The device filters data at 2.4 billion bits per second."
