Hey folks, just wanted to ask for any comments be shipped
me way on this, I am going to put some final polish on it this weekend and then
try to get it published to the public next week as I am getting a lot of hits
asking for it now that the word is spreading.
One HUGE COOL AWESOME feature I am adding is DHTML. It is
something I wanted to do but had no clue how to do and luckily I am so
incredibly brilliant (and might I say a touch psychic) that I was smart enough
to get Bob Free on the Beta and he grabbed Ryan Durant who took the output from
the program and whipped it into DHTML format so you can sort on the fly at the
client in IE by clicking on columns. Also he gave some code for
hiding/displaying columns. So now I will get that code put into the program so
that HTML code is all generated by the program so the output report is that much
better. That totally rocks.
Once I have this knocked down I will see what I can do
about getting some sort of NT4 version knocked out but have to say it will not
be as fast as the AD version. NT4 doesn't have a query mode, you have to read
every object and then make a judgement call on it. I will strive to make it
faster than anything else you have seen though. :op
Yo Rick... where are those comments at. I know you have
SOMETHING to say. You can't be this quiet unless you have been gagged.
Props again to Ryan!

The next round of mailings have occurred. If you haven't
gotten it by 9PM EST let me know. There is one address I am having problems
with, Arthur, it will get there....
I wanted to point out two things about
this.
1. It isn't a script, it is an Executable. You won't see
source and you won't be able to modify it.
2. This will not work on NT4, it is an Active Directory
tool. I will consider writing something up for NT4 as I have a lot of requests
for that now since people want to clean up prior to
migrations.
Kudos to Roger Seielstad for reporting
the first bug (feature?). He found where I typoed something in the useage info.
The second wave of mailings have that fixed. The fixed version was 1.1 and also
has an /append option for the report and has referrals turned off. I have
already turned referrals back on by default and have added an option (norefer)
to turn it off. I thought it was impacting performance but it didn't appear to
be after more testing and the fact that the local ldap server won't bounce you
to the proper dc for a specific base query bothered me so I changed it so folks
w/ less experience won't run into confusion with it. Anyway that is in 1.2.

Rants, I don't rant! <eg>
It should be on its way to everyone who asked for it. If
you don't get it by say Noon EST or so, let me know and I will see what else I
can do to distribute...
Still room for more testers so if you thought, no, there is
no way I am too late. Send a note..
All I want in return is undying loyalty, eternal love,
errr... no that isn't you guys... Umm I want honest feedback, if you think of
something while using it like "that is nice but wouldn't it be cool or better
if..." send it to me. I am not promising I will change it but I like the
feedback so I know what people are thinking. I know I am unusual on how i see
the world but I want this to be useful for you folks out there trying to manage
your environments.

Ya know - you slay me, Joe. I love it when you get on
these rants. I love it even more when it results in something cool like
this.
You still looking for testers, then I'm in. You know
my environment - fairly jacked up (working on it....), 25k desktops, 300
servers, yeah - it's typical mid-sized business.
If you want me to play with it and give honest feedback,
you KNOW you don't even need to ask. Just send it....
